The 25% tariff on Canadian lumber exports that was implemented yesterday had a quick impact on the eastern spruce lumber market. The mills that were on the market raised their asking prices by varying degrees. The U.S. mills were less aggressive than their Canadian counterparts. Many of the Canadian mills though were off the market to assess the impact of the tariff and strategized. The U. S. mills, and distributors did garner some orders with the smaller increases they initiated. The Canadian mills were less fortunate, selling little if anything.
