There was something amiss in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Demand was good and the mills had product to sell but activity was inconsistent throughout the day. A potential tariff set for April 2nd on Canadian lumber exports enabled uncertainty and weighed heavily on mindsets. Prices on many items have risen considerably over the last month with some of it artificially when a 25% tariff was imposed on March 4th. Although it was rescinded a few days later, its impact was quickly felt and reacted upon.
