The potential tariff on Canadian lumber exports due to be implemented April 2nd quieted mill sales and their activity in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Clients were also unsure what to do in the current market. Was it better to buy now or wait? Would there be more supply and prices soften if there was another delay. Despite these concerns, two previous delays in February and March of having a tariff, prices have risen, and supply has remained tight. U.S. Distributors though were busy and had the certainty traders needed to transact the many orders on the day.
