Demand and activity sprang to life in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday resulting in a busy day for orders. Clients gravitated to sources they could count on to cover their quick needs. Distributors held sway in the market, often more competitive than the mills with prices and deliveries. The mills selling without a tariff caveat participated, but only to the extent of what they could deliver within two weeks. Overall prices were basically unchanged ahead of today’s anticipated decision of a tariff on Canadian lumber imports.
