Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Perspective

Demand and activity continued to be steady yet not up to expectations in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. With spring in full bloom, construction demand was hoped to be better but falling prices have kept purchases minimal and devoid of speculation. The mills have resisted taking less on price but have also struggled to sell current production, falling short on many items. The higher grades have dropped the most in price. Some items are nearing the lows of last year inviting an argument that downside risks are minimizing.
