There was early morning demand and activity in the eastern spruce lumber market last Friday, but things quieted down quickly in the afternoon. The mills adjusted their offerings to the lower published numbers but shied away from taking less. Prices were down but less than expectations. Demand and activity had improved during the week with less negativity observed, pointing to a shift in the market. There remain pockets of inventory wanting to get sold but from distributors rather than the mills. Many Canadians are off today observing Victoria Day.
