Activity ramped up in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday as demand intensified during the day. Prices firmed with busy mills going off the market on the hotter selling products. They were also able to establish a two-week order file on many items. Clients grew increasingly responsive at buying inventory as wholesalers were hectic at covering orders previously taken. Distributors became more defensive on pricing and protective of specified inventories with the change in the market.
