Demand and activity picked up in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Inquiries were strong to start the day from several concerns. It did not take long for the mills to attract attention and begin selling. They were able to move and get higher prices on a variety of items as the day progressed. Mill order files were bolstered by the influx of orders. Mill shipments are out 2 to 3 weeks, with some bumping up against their annual summer shutdowns the last two weeks of July. Fewer mill options increased pressure on distributors to supply needs.
