Much stronger demand livened up activity in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Clients paid higher prices on the items they needed to get. Distributor inventories were the ballast for many of the orders transacted. The variety of products, timely deliveries, and lower prices than current mill asking were the keys to getting those orders. The mills were not strong participants in the action. They are weighing their options on how to come to market with the higher anti-dumping duty in place and the increase in the countervailing duty coming later this month.
