Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Perspective

Demand and activity were much improved in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Sales were over a wide range of building products keeping traders busy throughout the day. Canadian mills tried to be more involved but have been resistant to counters. Increased duties and a potential tariff from a Commerce Department investigation under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act has kept them at bay. The investigation is examining whether lumber imports represent a threat to national security. A ruling is due out later this month.
