Demand and activity improved slightly in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday along with some subtle changes noted. Prices continued to drop but by much smaller increments. There was also more continuity in price among the mills of those in the market. Some Canadian mills continued to hold out selling to the states due to the higher duties they are paying, leaving fewer mill options and products for buyers to go to. Alternative species have become viable alternatives to spruce in certain applications.
