Business and activity quieted on Friday to end last week in the eastern spruce lumber market. The balance of the week saw steady demand and takeaway, helping various concerns lower their inventory positions. Spruce prices were slightly down on the week as the mills and distributors focused on selling their accumulations. Not all items were affected but many were. Several Canadian mills continued to steer their sales to the Canadian market as they contend with paying higher duties on their lumber shipments to the U.S.
