The eastern spruce lumber market kept up its momentum yesterday. Steady demand enabled strong sales for the mills and distributors. Prices moved higher as a result, but several items continued to lag published prices with many eastern mills reportingly selling at better numbers. Distributors were active buyers with the mills and became defensive with their selling prices as replacement costs were much higher than expected. Retailers and manufacturers were also more receptive to bolstering inventories than paring them down.
