Demand and activity improved in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Distributors remained busy fulfilling client needs but sales for the mills were weak and sluggish. Excess supply of 2x4 pushed prices lower on it. Distributors were formidable competitors with the mills on 2x4 with ample supply of it as well. The dichotomy was that the other widths were less available and harder to source. Prices on them were also resilient if not higher in many cases than they had been.
