Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Perspective

Sales slowed and activity quieted to end the last week of the month in the eastern spruce lumber market. Prices were weak throughout the week on 2x4 but resilient to higher on the other widths. The mills fell short of selling their production, depleting much of the order files they had previously. The Canadian mills struggled greatly with incorporating 34% duties and a 10% tariff on their exports to the U.S. while trying to make ends meet. Supply from distributors was more than enough to care for lower-than-expected demand.
