Lower prices set the tone with activity in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Many orders hinged on it. Clients looked for the discounts to sway purchases, having successes with both distributors and the mills. Supply trumped demand putting pressure on prices. The mills needed orders as distributors stayed focused on lowering their inventories. Both sparred trying to outdo each other. Very few items were not affected although major discounts were hard to find. The market was in a trading environment with give and take being the dominant factor.
