Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Perspective

Stronger demand livened up sales and activity in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Distributors took the lead in selling, lowering prices to generate orders. Uncertainty on the direction of the market had those with inventory wanting to sell than protect. The mills did what they could to compete, but they often did not have the mix of products needed to do so. There was more reluctance by all sources though to limit the items on the chopping block as lower prices is causing much anguish over the losses being incurred. There were also growing concerns that dropping prices will eventually affect mill production.
