Demand strengthened and sales improved in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday. Retailers were more ambitious in snagging lower priced offerings. The mills, distributors and wholesalers all benefitted from the increased activity depending on their involvement. Lower prices generated many of the orders but there was also a concern that prices have reached levels that will dictate reaction by the mills to cutback or curtail production. The mills and distributors were willing sellers, but they also held back on the volume they were selling, aware of the losses they are incurring with many of those sales.
