The eastern spruce lumber market was in transition yesterday. Prices moved higher on strong demand. The mills limited the number of orders they would take on the items they did have for sale. Clients looked and wanted to buy more but found few sources willing to sell, especially at current published prices. Distributors had supply but asked higher numbers. They did have success selling to clients needing quick delivery and could do the mix of products needed. The mills readied for their holiday shutdowns starting Friday. Some were willing to sell for January with others waiting until then to do so.
