Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Perspective

Demand and activity were steady on Friday to end the last full working week of the year in the eastern spruce lumber market. The mills had a few things left they could ship quickly by year’s end which sold more easily in a market with rising prices. Leftover secondary positions also sold quickly, leaving very little left of a two-tiered market that had developed over the last couple of weeks. Eastern mill production is now on hiatus with most expected back in early January. Although prices are moving higher, they are still well below mill breakeven levels, which may impact when some will come back online.
