Bill's Corner- An eastern Spruce Perspective

Constant, ongoing, persistent and steady are all words that best describe demand in the lumber market. There is little time to pause, think and react. Traders and buyers have to be top of mind at all times to keep up with the activity that reverberates throughout the market on a daily basis. Yesterday was no exception as overall sales were strong on a wide range of lumber products. Buyers were not hesitant to commit to certain items knowing of the need and the high probability of selling were too good not to react to them. Timing is also crucial as a missed opportunity opens the door for others who are ready to capitalize.

What do you mean by timing? Are you saying buyers have very small buying windows on offers?

generally speaking yes. all quotes from the mills are subject prior to sales. if the mill has one and it is sold in between you inquire and get a sale, the mill has the option of taking the order or not!

Classic seller’s market! Stressing the system is what eventually brings innovative solutions and creates an opportunity for people to capitalize on them. But this mentality shift does not happen overnight …
