Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Perspective

The volume of new orders was lite to start the week and month in the lumber market yesterday. There were quick needs to fill but little else to inspire sales. Several eastern mills had a wide variety of items available but found few takers for them. Overall prices were suspect, casting doubts and causing hesitation for buyers. There were also questions and concerns centered around the increase in lumber tariffs, due to be implemented later this month, affecting lumber imports from the Canadian mills. Much speculation arose as to the potential impact in the market and specifically on prices.

@william_giguere Are these tariffs going forward and backwards? Will importers of origin need to pay for past cross border transactions as well as future ones?

I believe only on transactions after the implementation date…
