Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Perspective

Activity and sales continued to ramp up in the lumber market yesterday. New orders again outpaced the previous day’s tally. Lower prices spurred buyers into action, as many believed that the lower numbers were more of a buying opportunity than a selloff in the market. The Canadian mills scrambled to sell and ship as much of their on the ground inventory over the border and into the States as possible, before the potential increase in lumber tariffs takes place, tentatively on November 22nd at midnight. The proposed increase is doubling from 9% to 18% for many eastern Canadian mills.

@william_giguere @Michael_Haas @Jim_Schumacher @Madison_s_Lumber_Rep really? this is huge? what is the rationale behind these tariffs? demand is far outpacing supply as is in this market. why put up more barriers on supply from Canada in an overheated market? or are the tariff gods insensitive to the market?!

it has been a long, lengthy dispute over the Canadian mills being subsidized by their govt with cheap raw material, causing unfair competition to U.S Mills
