Widespread demand fueled robust activity to start the new year in the lumber market yesterday. Traders were anxious for business but the absence of some eastern mills and price differences among them caused some consternation. Patience was in play. Many wanted to see what all the eastern mills would have available for sale and where prices they would trade at. Buyers were not as quick to step in and react to the first things they saw. A sense of urgency was lacking. There was time to reflect and digest, at least for the moment.
