Bill's Corner- An Eastern Spruce Persppective

There was no lack of activity in the eastern spruce lumber market yesterday, although transactions trailed the previous day’s volume. Buyers were faced with a lack of mill offerings to work with, higher prices on them and a pool of retailers fearful to buy. Manufacturers though kept up their purchases, more concerned with keeping the flow of material coming, despite having to pay more. Other influences in the market revolved around the impact of the fire at Eacom’s Timmins mill, reduced production at Canfor’s Plateau mill, and the ongoing transportation issues faced by West Fraser in B.C.

So West Fraser is not immune to the transportation issues despite its size and market power.
And in up markets manufacturers seem to be more reliable than Retailers because they have more at stake – keeping the production lines running.

Great insights @william_giguere – learning every day!
