Brazil’s plywood exports have been falling sharply over the past two months after a Fort Lauderdale federal court revoked the certificates of a dozen Brazilian mills producing structural plywood for the US market. Brazil’s exports of plywood decreased 36% year-on-year to 140 thousand m3 in August. The value of exports fell 52% to $56 million. In July, the decline in export volume amounted to 39.6%.
In August, the average price for exported Brazilian plywood slipped 2.7% compared to the previous month at $403 per m3, according to Lesprom Analytics. This is 24.7% less than a year ago when it was $535.
Brazil decreased exports of plywood to the U.S. by 44% year-on-year to 47 thousand m3 in August. Supplies to Mexico increased by 38% to 22.2 thousand m3, exports to Belgium decreased by 50% to 8 thousand m3.
