Canadian wood product manufacturing operates at 77.1% capacity in Q1 2023

The wood product manufacturing industry in Canada operated at 77.1% of its production capacity in 1Q2023, according to Statistics Canada. While this represents a slight decrease compared to the previous quarter (81.7% in 4Q2022), the sector’s performance remained relatively stable when compared to the same quarter in the previous year. In 1Q2022, the wood product manufacturing industry had a production capacity of 78.7%.

The forestry and logging sector experienced a decline in production capacity, operating at 76.1% in 1Q2023. This represents a slight decrease compared to the fourth quarter of 2022 when the sector operated at 77.7%. However, when compared to the same quarter in the previous year, the sector’s production capacity witnessed a more notable decline from 78.0% in 1Q2022.

The paper manufacturing sector operated at a production capacity of 82.6% in the first quarter, which was a decrease from the previous quarter’s capacity of 83.4% and from Q1 2022 when the sector showed 83.9%.

In the first quarter of 2023, Canadian industries as a whole demonstrated a slight increase in production capacity, operating at 81.9% compared to 81.8% in the previous quarter.
