There are reporting tools available to determine the costs of delivery based on the truck used, the mileage, the stop time, additional costs for a helper or additional equipment needed (boom, forklift, conveyor, etc.).

Kidding aside, this is a standard reporting function in our ODT software, and this is one of many reasons for distributors to look at a delivery management solution. Since we can track deliveries, driver stop times, mileage, etc., we have a ton of data at our fingertips that factors in operational costs. ERP/POS systems can calculate margins, but they don’t include delivery costs to give you the true NET margins!
