Getting European lumber from sawmills to the ports for export to the US was already difficult due to the affects of Covid on the transportation industry. A disproportionate number of truck drivers in Western Europe are from the Ukraine. Most of them have abandoned their jobs to return home and join the fight against Russia. This has caused thousands of trucks to now sit idle throughout Europe and put further constraint on an already difficult supply chain. This is in addition to the 5000~6000 trucks that were stranded in the Ukraine that could not make it back to Western Europe when the war broke out.

Great post. This conflict seems to have wide-ranging effects across nearly all industries and reminds me how interconnected our supply chains are. This will likely lead to further delays and further price increases. That said… that’s if Europe continues to export to the US…
I hope this madness ends soon and all these truckers can safely return home to their families. On a lighter note, imagining these truckers headed to the front lines to save the day reminds me of this scene from Convoy. May they all return home safely.
