Richmond Plywood commissions AI robotic plywood repair system

Richmond Plywood (RichPly) recently completed installation of a Con-Vey Argos panel repair system. The $17.4 million investment integrates robotic technology with AI to automatically repair plywood surface defects.

Natural Resource Canada contributed $6.7 million through the Investments in Forest Industry Transformation Program, which funds projects that increase efficiency and sustainability within Canada’s forestry sector.

Bhavjit Thandi, CFO of Richmond Plywood, said the new automated system is a good fit with the company’s dedication to minimizing waste and enhancing production competitiveness. Thandi was honored in Woodworking Network’s 40 Under 40 class of 2022.

Richply was founded more than 60 years ago. According to its website, the company employs more than 400 people.
