Southern Yellow Pine (genus Pinus) trees will be abundant for years to come

The SYP mills have positioned themselves for sustainable and responsible procurement for years to come. SYP is tough as “nails” and somewhat plentiful. Proper forest management, harvesting and production will help to protect and preserve this wonderful raw material and carbon extractor!

This is good to hear as the old growth deferrals in BC are still causing slowdowns and in Spruce market. Pine has a quicker harvest cycle so I don’t think it’s unsafe to bet on SYP growing more common as a building and framing product vs SPF.

@cmusselman & @Michael_Haas Couldn’t agree more. There is good reason that Canadian and Europe companies are coming in to get access to SYP. Faster to grow, faster to harvest, faster to sequester carbon.

Do you guys deal in SYP?

Absolutely we do! We sell more bright #1 than we do any treated, but I am looking to correct that given predictable market conditions. I wish we would do railcars because we are always running out.
