Description: White to Pale Yellow colour, fine grain, very consistent colour and grain. A large tree, it yield a lot of large, clear boards free of knots or other defects. Moderately stable, similar to red oak and maple for stability and density, working properties. Good strength and able to resist denting and scratching.
Uses: Mainly interior usage. Relatively abundant and a high, clear grade available at a low price. Good for floors, stairs, tool handles, furniture and cabinet making.
Current price estimates for 4/4, 6/4 and 8/4 kiln dried lumber, FAS grade (actually almost FEQ) with lots of wide boards, S2S, landed at Eastern US Ports are about US$1.85 to $2.00 bd ft. S2S is usually at full thickness (8/4 planed to 2 inches)
