U.S. mortgage rates show minor movement as 30-year fixed loan averages 6.26%

The average U.S. 30-year fixed-rate mortgage reached 6.26% this week, a slight increase from last week’s 6.24%. This rate remains below the 6.84% average recorded during the same period one year ago, according to Freddie Mac.

The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage also saw a minor increase, averaging 5.54% compared to 5.49% the previous week. Over the past month, mortgage rates have moved within a narrow 10-basis point range, providing a degree of stability to the housing market. Freddie Mac’s chief economist, Sam Khater, noted this consistency offers greater certainty for both buyers and sellers.
